Glasses and Contact Lenses

The basic compulsory insurance only partially covers eyeglasses and contact lenses until the age of 18. Adults, however, must often pay in full for their own prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses. Given the very high cost of eye these days, this expense can often place a burden on a household budget.

For those who regularly wear eyeglasses or contact lenses, it is highly recommended to opt for additional insurance that contributes to the cost of new glasses or contact lenses, and thus greatly reduces their own share of the cost.

Benefits for additional insurance covering glasses and contact lenses:

  • up to 90 % of the costs may be covered
  • choosing a package with eye care coverage often includes many other useful services for a low premium

For those under 18, such a package that covers eye glasses and contact is also recommended, as the cost-sharing is often significantly higher than in the compulsory basic insurance
