How does Bonus/Malus (no-claims bonus) work?

A no-claims bonus is standard for car insurance:

  • If the insured person does not file a claim during the policy year, he/she receives a bonus from the insurance company and the premium rate will be reduced for the following year. The premium remains on the lower scale as long as the insured person does not file a claim.
  • If an insured person files a claim, the insurance company will increase the premium rate for the following year.

Especially for Casco products, insurance companies offer bonus protection as an additional cover option which ensures that in case of a claim the premium rate does not increase in the following year.
