What do the four basic risks covered by a home insurance mean exactly?

The home insurance covers four basic dangers fire, water, theft and glass breakage.

  • Fire covers lightning, explosions as well as the elementary dangers (high water, flood, storm, hail, avalanches, snowy pressure, rock fall, and landslide)
  • Water covers leakage, penetration of water in the building, running out fuel oil and frost damages
  • Theft covers burglary at home and outwards (e. g. at the hotel), robbery (also at home and outwards) as well as theft. Limitation of the different insurance policies in case of claims for jewellery and cash have to be considered while selecting a home insurance policy. For expensive jewellery a separate valuables assurance is recommended
  • Glass breakage covers the building glazing (window, glass doors etc. ) as well (depending on the insurance policy) the furnishings glazing (wall mirror, glass cabinets, glass tables etc. )
